To enhance any garden, an excellent option is to use arbors and trellises.  You can place these in more than one place and use a variety of plants and flowers to create a unique look.  For instance, you might grow a ground covering at the base and then add a variety of plants and flowers that will grow between 12 and 18 inches around the base.  Then, you want to choose flowering, climbing plants that will grow over the sides and tops of the arbor and/or trellis, filling it in and creating a beautiful retreat.

            Arbor

An arbor resembles a doorway, usually an arch that you would walk under as you enter the garden or garden area.  In most cases, arbors are made from lattice material although they can be constructed from a number of materials.  Some people will simply place an arbor as a stand-alone piece of garden décor, which creates a beautiful sight.

The types of vines usually grown on an arbor include things such as Honeysuckle, Clematis, Roses, Ivy, and anything that can get a good grip and intertwine in between the slats.  The goal is to eventually get the entire arbor covered with the plant so very little of the lattice can be seen.

Trellis

With a trellis, these can be made from all types of materials and designed in a number of shapes and sizes.  In most cases, a trellis will be made from wood slats that are designed in a crisscross pattern.  However, other popular materials include resin and metal.

Like an arbor, the trellis can be used as an entrance, constructed to provide some privacy, or it can simply be a stand-alone piece of garden décor.  In addition to creating a nice focal point in the garden, trellises are also functional in that they provide support to climbing plants and flowers.
